Summer is in full swing, and one of our favorite summer activities {and really all year round} is visiting our local library. It is free indoor fun {hello air conditioning} and my kids love going. We love story hour and and the children’s area, and we love finding new books to read. We have our staples like Brown Bear, Brown Bear and anything from the Pete The Cat or If You Give A Mouse a Cookie series, but we are always on the hunt for new books.
We have found some really great books lately that are quickly becoming favorites around the Tanner house.
And of course what kind of friends would we be if we didn’t share our new favorites with all of you?
I {big puffy} HEART this book. Each crayon gets to share their point of view and some of them are hilarious! Peach is by far the family favorite. It has been a must read for Megan each night for several weeks now and it is just too cute. It has also been funny to watch Megan give her crayons equal attention while coloring these days so as not to make anyone sad.
#2) Indestructibles: Baby Faces
Mamas with small babies….you NEED these books. They are called Indestructibles and they really are just that. For my boys who try to eat all their books, these are perfect. They can drool, slobber, chew to their hearts content and not a thing happens. They also feel more like a real book versus the cloth or plastic books that are also on the market. There are a ton of different titles with Baby Faces and Jungle Rumble being two of the boys faves.
This book is so very sweet. Gerald the Giraffe just wants to dance at the Jungle Dance but is quickly told he can’t . It offers a great message about individuality and dancing to the beat of your own drum.
This is for sure one of the boys new favorites as they are truck obsessed these days. A funny book with basic numbers about a truck who gets stuck in a prairie dog hole.
#5) I Took the Moon for a Walk
A magical journey of a boy and the moon going for a walk in his neighborhood. This sweet poem has beautiful pictures and has been the perfect “Night Night” book for all of the kiddos as it’s calm tones and sweet message get them settled into bed.
This has been a favorite for some time now thanks to my friend Phyllis. I must say, that if you plan to purchase this book, make sure you get it with the CD! The author’s voices are unmatched and truly make the entire store. My girls know this entire book by heart and they never seem to tire of it.
We got this book, mainly for the title, but of course fell in love with it right away. In this super cute book you learn all about Dragon parties and their love for Mexican cuisine. Even though I know the boys don’t understand what I am reading, for whatever reason they always crack up at this book.
#8) The Hiccupotamus
You have to make sure you are on your game for this fun tongue twister. I really hope they aren’t the only ones, but my kids think bodily functions are hilarious. And hiccups are no exception. The bright pictures and the fact that it says “bottomus” have made it one of Megan’s new favorites.
#9) Miss Smith’s Incredible Storybook
Another great book with amazing pictures. This is a story of Miss Smith, a 2nd grade teacher who has a way of making stories come to life. Lots of classic storybook characters make an appearance and even Madisyn loves to read this one with us over and over.
#10) Tuck Me In!
This was another recommendation by my friend Phyllis and it is actually part of our nightly routine. The kids take turns saying goodnight to their animal friends and tucking each one in with the lift and flap pages. The boys can get a little rough, but they still love to try and Megan at 4.5 still chooses this every single night as one of her 3 “night night” stories.
All these stories are Tanner Kid approved and we totally encourage you to check them out. And becuase we were such good friends to share, tell us what are some of your favorite children’s books? We will be going to the library often this summer and are in need of some good suggestions.
